HPCompaq site says that they don't recommend installing WIN2K on the Presario 7478. I don't know why but it worked PERFECTLY for me. I made sure to verify that I had the VIA 8501 chipset. Then I extracted the files to a temp directory and ran Setup.exe it automatically installed and prompted for restart. Upon reboot it came up with a nice blue background which indicated that it worked. All I had to do was rightclick on the desktop and select PROPERTIES and the SETTINGS TAB and set my SCREEN AREA and COLORS appropriately. I did sign up for the HP site survey and told them how I felt about their lack of support.
