The comments made are exactly right. For whatever reason HP decided to include the video driver from nVidia just not the ethernet adapter driver from Asus.

After I installed the driver on Win2K Pro the Device Manager indicated there was a problem. When I did a reinstall from the device properties I selected Windows Update as part of the search criteria. The Windows update supplied additional driver files that corrected the problem. Now everything is AOK...
