Finally a driver that works with Win2k and a Compaq 7478 VIA 8501 chipset. See Dan Denver's comment above for install. I did mine by downloading on another computer extracting to a thumb drive swapping drive to the Compaq and running setup from there.

This driver works for my PcTel PCI Modem bought from Tiger Direct you should copy this driver directly to drive A because it might have attributes that make it harder to copy from C to A later on. Works good for the Model No. Listed.

I installed this driver successfully to WinXP Pro SP1a. So far so good. However interrupting a scan with other activity on the system causes small glitches in the scan which is not unusual. I also have a small gripe with the fact that the installer does not allow custom installing. IBM's installer adds in small utilities that are not necessary in my case. Even worse is tha I'm now noticing that the utility self runs periodically. I'm going to reinstall the drivers again without the IBM clutter. I would imagine it should still work just fine. I'll add another comment if I experience otherwise.
