This totally worked for my compaq 50005WV285 computer. I had trouble when I lost windows me and i had to install my old windows 98...well it 98 didnt accept my soundax drivers and gave me PCI multimedia audio PCI bridge and PCI card new hardware prompts problems. I totally didnt have any sound and soundmax's web site sucked with no info. THIS did the trick when nothing else worked

This is merly a Windows 2000 version of the driver. I am running windows xp and it accepts the driver but a get a whole lot of blue screens when I'm online mostly about vmodem.sys which is one of the files used for the driver.
