THANKS FOR THE TIP TO DISABLE DOS USB SUPPORT IN THE BIOS. THE DRIVER INCLUDED IN WINDOWS 2000 WORKED FINE AFTER MAKING THIS ADJUSTMENT.

By the time I have found this site I have been able to use the recovery disk that came with the computer which was a Pavilion 8201 so I do not know if this works but I have downloaded it successfully.
