Couldn't tell if driver update was an improvement as it is possible that the drive itself was damaged.Replaced drive with a Liteon SHW160P6Sworks perfectly.

I SWITCHED FROM ME TO XP AND LOST THE SOUND. THE COMPUTER DID NOT EVEN RECOGNIZE THAT I HAD A SOUND CARD AC97. I SEARCHED ALL DAY FOR AN ANSWER. THANK'S TO DRIVERGUIDE.COM I NOW HAVE MY MUSIC. I TRIED IT FOR FREE IT WAS EASY AND I MAY DECIDE TO KEEP IT. AFTER ALL I JUST PAID A TECH 185.00 TO DO SOME WORK ON MY COMPUTER AND I WAS NOT ABOUT TO ASK HIM TO COME BACK OUT TO MY HOUSE TO FIX THIS PROBLEM. WHEN I REBOOTED AND HEARD THE COMPUTER LOG ON SOUND IT WAS MUSIC TO MY EARS.
